Nelson College เป็นโรงเรียนมัธยมแห่งแรกของประเทศนิวซีแลนด์ ก่อตั้งในปีค.ศ.1856 และมีหลักสูตรการเรียนการสอนที่เข้มข้นมีวิชาการในสาขาวิชาต่างๆ มากมาย ให้นักเรียนได้เลือกเรียน
สำหรับนักเรียนต่างชาติ ทางโรงเรียนมีที่พักแบบประจำให้นักเรียนต่างชาติ ซึ่งมีหอพักทั้งหมด 3 หอพักประกอบด้วย Barnicoat House, Fell House, Rutherford House และหอพักทั้ง 3ตั้งอยู่ในบริเวณโรงเรียน ซึ่งในแต่ละหอพักจะมี อาจารย์ผู้ดูแลและควบคุมนักเรียน พร้อมให้ความช่วยเหลือนักเรียนตลอดเวลา และยังมีโปรแกรม ESOL เปิดสอนให้กับนักเรียนต่างชาติในทุกระดับชั้น
